The Ministry of Labour and Human Resources has signed Memorandum of Understanding with ITE – Education Services, Singapore for collaborating in Technical and Vocational Education and Training in development of Bhutan on 15th May, 2017 at Minister’s Conference Hall.
The signing took place in the presence of Hon’ble Minister, Ngeema Sangay Tshempo, MoLHR and Hon’ble Minister, Vivian Balakrishnan, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government of the Republic of Singapore.
The main areas of focus under MoU are:
- TVET Infrastructure Development;
- TVET Leadership Development;
- TVET Staff Capability Development;
- TVET Academic Development; and
- TVET Academic Quality Assurance.
This MoU emanated from our Minister, Ngeema Sangay Tshempo’s visit to Singapore in 2016 where Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the Government of Singapore, graciously agreed to provide technical and capacity development support for TVET institutes in Bhutan in partnership with ITE-Singapore.
ITE offers a wide range of courses to school leavers and working adults, with courses from the Schools of Applied & Health Sciences, Business & Services, Design & Media, Electronics & Info-Comm Technology, Engineering and Hospitality. The Ministry hopes that partnership with ITE will help us emulate their model in providing not only high-quality training and skills development but also exciting and market-responsive learning for our own economy and beyond.
This MoU is also a result of MoLHR’s determination to lift the standards of our technical and vocational institutes and graduates to produce productive workforce in the country in facing the 21st century economy. Most importantly, it has become imperative for Bhutan to chart our own course for knowledge-based economy to realize our national development goal of Gross National Happiness or GNH. This is the goal of the TVET Blueprint set to be achieved within the duration of 2016 to 2026.
